Good start for Nico Verdonck at Monza with HTP Motorsport!

1st round of the Blancpain Endurance Series
Fighting back from 10th to 5th place: that is the good performance realised by Belgium racing driver Nico Verdonck, during the first round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Monza this Sunday, 13th April 2014, driving a Mercedes SLS of HTP Motorsport!

However, the qualifications were not ideal for Nico. In fact, after his team mate Harold Primat who had a small moment going off track at Parabolica, where the team lost time cleaning gravel from the car, As a result Nico Verdonck was only able to complete two flying laps in Q2. He, however, managed to move the car from 10th to 8th place  during his qualifying run. Finally, the team started from 10th position on the grid where Nico took the start of the first stint on Sunday at 14:45.

Very quickly he moved through the field to take 5th place, and was fighting constantly for 4th position. His teammate Harold took over and completed a problem free and very consistent second stint. Maxi secured the final stint, sticking to the car in front with a gap of around 30 seconds.

Nico Verdonck: "I am globally satisfied of this first race with HTP Motorsport. We were the first Mercedes in the race and made no mistakes. It was a strong performance, if we consider that we strated 10th on the grid and that the performance of the McLaren and Audis really stood out this weekend. We were missing performance in some areas, but we will continue to work hard on this and focuss to catch up in late May at Silverstone. I already have a much better feeling for the car which is of course positive for the future".

For this first race of the season, Nico Verdonck has clearly shown his great potential by adapting rapidly to a new car and bieng only 0.2 sec. of the best time of his team mate Bukh with new tyres.

Also note that Nico Verdonck is currently in discussions to finalise other races this season including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

We will keep you informed.
