Victory for Nico Verdonck in BRCC with Curbstone!

New Race Festival - Zolder, Monday 28th April 2014

Engaged at the last minute to compete in the New Race Festival at Circuit Zolder, Nico Verdonck and his teammate Frédéric Vervisch ensured the show with Patrick Van Glabeke’s Ferrari 458 GT3 Curbstone.

In free practice, the duo were able to show that they were one of the favorites for the race, and their 2nd place in qualifying also confirmed the potential of the car.

Nico Verdonck: "My teammate took the start but had some tough competition, where he lost 2 positions but he quickly recovered and took the lead of the race. I took over and increased our gap to our competitors where I was able to set a fast, consistent and safe stint."

The end of the race was a bit chaotic with the safety car that came out and created miscommunication between the race control messages and our timing, when had to stop for our mandatory time penalty of 7 minutes for all GTPE cars.

Nico Verdonck: "We drove a strong race, which enabled to us to have a decent gap of 2 laps ahead of our competitors that we could afford to lose a bit of time. It was a great victory with a good-prepared car and a well-organized team. My teammate did a faultless job. All these ingredients have enabled us to achieve this well deserved result."

"After four years of absence at national level in Belgium, I am happy to return to the opening of the new season by winning the first race. I would like to sincerely thank Patrick Van Glabeke of Curbstone. It was a great weekend, as we all had some good fun together and performed strongly all way through. We were the favorites, but nothing is ever won untill the chequared flag and it. And we proved that we were the fastest!

Next race for Nico Verdonck will be during the weekend of May 23-25 for the 2nd round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at the wheel of his Mercedes SLS AMG of HTP Motorsport.

Meanwhile Nico continues on his preparations and possible other programs. (To be continued...)
