Fourth podium in a row for Verdonck-Gillion

The different races follow each other in high speed! The Belgians Nico Verdonck and Rodrigue Gillion, for Brno12h together in a team with Indian racer Akhil Rabindra, made it to the podium for the fourth time in a row in the GT4 category of the 24h Series.

Last weekend, Nico Verdonck and Rodrigue Gillion travelled to the Czech Republic for Brno12h. With the Aston Martin Vantage (our # 1), both drivers made it to the GT4 podium once again, and with this podium reinforced their leading position in the 24h Series European Championship.

"We are very happy with this 3rd place in the very competitive GT4’s class”, confirms a pleased Steve Buschmann, the Team Manager of PROsport Performance. “Especially, the performance of Rodrigue over the last weekend was outstanding. It is a pleasure for us to follow all the progress he is making. We notice that the preparation and cooperation with Nico, before and during race weekends, pays off. We are currently leading the GT4 class and are even at a 4th overall place in the championship, which is remarkable considering that we are running with a complete new car!”

Rodrigue Gillion and Nico Verdonck, third in GT4 at Dubai24i, second at Mugello12h, winner at Spa12h, started this 12h of Brno with ambition. With the assistance of a strong Akhil Rabindra, they scored a bronze medal. “I like this type of fast, but yet technical circuits,” explains Rodrigue. “I felt very confident at the wheel and found a good rhythm straight away. I admit that I am proud of my progress with a car that I only came to discover this year. The car is pleasant to drive: powerful, consistent and well-balanced for a gentleman-driver like me, that dream of driving a GT3 one day. A big thank you to my friend and coach Nico. Since the beginning of our cooperation in September 2018, he pushes me to push my boundaries with a very complete coaching programme (karting, track days, racing, physical preparations, simulator trainings, etc.). He also assisted me in the team choice for this season. This podium once again proves that we made the right choice.”

Also Nico Verdonck can look back satisfied. “The KTM’s were just out of range on this circuit. We were the best of the rest. We achieved the best possible result this weekend! Brno was a completely new venue for all of us. We prepared ourselves specifically with simulator trainings before we left for Czech Republic. Throughout the race, Rodrigue proved he could manage the tire degradation well (which was very high on this circuit) thanks to his fluent driving style. He was fast and consistent during the entire stint. The gap between his and my lap times become smaller every race. To be continued!”

The next meeting of the 24h Series European Championship is schedule from 5 to 7 July in Portugal. “Portimao 24h is our next challenge, both sportively as physically”, explains Nico. “Rodrigue and myself look to further establish our leadership in this championship and we are currently looking for the best composition of our team for this race.”

But, before the Portimao 24h, Nico will participate in another 24h race. As official driver of Hyundai Motorsport, he will fight for victory in the TCR category at the Nürburgring 24h, the top event of the season!
