Strong race not rewarded for Verdonck at Nürburgring!

The “1000 Kms of the Nürburgring”, 5th and final round of the Blancpain Endurance Series, started off on a high note for Nico Verdonck.

Having set off from 11th place on the grid he took on a double stint and brought the car up into 3rd place, proving once again that he is amongst one of the fastest drivers, notwithstanding the wet conditions.

Bernd Schneider, his teammate then took over the wheel during the following hour up until the appearance of the Safety Car, providing the team with the ideal opportunity for a driver change. At that moment the ALD Automotive Mercedes #84 then went into the lead with the Verdonck/Schneider duo producing the fastest race lap.

Unfortunately a spin during Harold Primat’s stint in the fourth hour of the race resulted in the team losing 3 laps and the car was back in 21st spot when Schneider took over the drive for the 6th and final hour of the race. Notwithstanding that he still managed to bring the Mercedes #84 up into 14th place overall.

Obviously highly disappointing for Nico Verdonck, especially seeing victory could have been within sight thanks to the strong performance of the HTP Motorsport SLS-GT3 during the first part of the race and the excellent lap times recorded.

Nico Verdonck: “For my part the race went well, however we allowed a great victory to slip through our fingers just when we were leading the race up until the halfway mark. The Championship ends here for this year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank ALD Automotive for having supported me throughout the season, not forgetting the entire HTP Motorsport team for their professionalism and efficiency.”
